Simply Red release their 12th Studio album, this one takes the band back to it roots and classic first album “Picture Book”, Mick Hucknall’s powerful vocals, blending in the Soul, Funk and RnB that was the true structure of the band’s first album.
The album stands out from first listen, with opening track “Thinking of You”, upbeat and energetic, with Hucknall’s strong vocals, penetrating the heart. Mick’s writing comes from deep in his soul, pencilling the stand out songs from the album “Complete Love”, “Ring That Bell” and “BadBootz”, this takes you from ballad’s to RnB master pieces. The album takes you on a journey that you just don’t want to end, the varied styles it holds its place, you definitely don’t want it to finish. Hucknall’s at the very top of his game with this album, both lyrically and musically.
The title track pulls out all the stops, with groove and passion, “Blue Eyed Soul” draws on the inspiration of classic funk and soul from the likes of Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown and Tower of Power.
The final tracks on the album “Chula” and “Tonight”, touches the heart and holds similarity to the classic “Holding back the years”. This is the album that will take the band on to new heights and with a mature feel to it, touches on the journey of life and realisation of the need to be home with family.
This is a must for all music lovers, not only the Soul and RnB, this has to be in every collection, much like the debut album “Picture book”, “Blue Eyed Soul “is a masterpiece that will bring a smile to your face, whilst pulling at the heart strings Blue Eyed Soul is satisfaction guaranteed
