INTERVIEW : KERR MESSER – Dream Fulfilled, More to Build: Kerr Messer on New EP, Tours & Lewis Capaldi (TRNSMT FESTIVAL 2026 )

It was a familiar scene – same place, same time – as Karen reconnected with Kerr Messer exactly one year after their meeting at last year’s TRNSMT festival. In their conversation, Karen caught up with Kerr to learn more about what he has been involved with over the past year and to discover the latest developments in his career.

Karen (Scottish Music Network):
Good afternoon. I’m Karen from Scottish Music Network, and today I’m thrilled to be joined by the exceptionally talented Kerr Messer. Kerr, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us – how has your day been so far?

Kerr Messer:
Thank you for having me, Karen. My day’s been great, though I have to say it’s been incredibly warm out – almost unusually so. I think everyone’s feeling the heat today. As someone with ginger hair, I suppose I get to complain a little more than most!

Karen:
That’s completely fair! The weather certainly has been intense.

Kerr Messer:
Absolutely, but overall, it’s been a fantastic day.

Karen:
You had the honour of opening the main stage this morning. Can you share how that experience felt for you?

Kerr Messer:
Yes, I did! It was truly a surreal moment. Being invited to perform at TRNSMT for the first time was already a milestone, but to be asked back again – especially to open the main stage – was beyond anything I could have expected. It’s genuinely an honour and a dream come true.

Karen:
I can only imagine how incredible that must have felt. Since our last conversation, what have you been focusing on in your career?

Kerr Messer:
It’s been quite a busy period, to be honest. I’ve had the opportunity to join several artists on support tours, and I’ve also headlined a few tours myself, which has been both challenging and rewarding.

Karen:
That’s impressive – congratulations on all your recent successes.

Kerr Messer:
Thank you! In addition to touring, my team and I have recently released three singles. We’re also gearing up for the release of a new EP in the very near future.

Karen:
That’s fantastic news. It’s clear you’ve been working incredibly hard.

Kerr Messer:
Definitely – there’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes, but it’s all worth it.

Karen:
We’ve been closely following your progress. Did you have the chance to debut any new songs during your set today?

Kerr Messer:
Yes, I did! I performed a brand new track titled “Stole Me Dead”, which was just released this week. I also made a last-minute decision to open with “Can’t Trust Myself”, hoping it would set the right tone for the set. If the response is positive, it might become a staple in my live shows.

Karen:
That sounds exciting. Are there any other festivals you’ll be performing at this summer?

Kerr Messer:
Yes, we have a few more festival appearances lined up. We’ll be performing at the British Summer Time Festival alongside Lewis Capaldi, which I’m particularly looking forward to. We’re also scheduled to play at Browns Cave Park in Leeds, and there are a couple of other dates in the works that we’ll be announcing soon.

Karen:
It sounds like you’ve got a busy few months ahead. Are there any plans for additional headline or support tours?

Kerr Messer:
We’re currently exploring the possibility of joining a support tour later in the year, and I’m also working on organising another headline tour. It’s been about a year since my last headline tour, and I haven’t toured since releasing my debut single, so I’m excited to get back on the road and connect with fans again.

Karen:
That’s wonderful to hear. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for those announcements. Will you be staying to enjoy the rest of the festival today?

Kerr Messer:
Absolutely – there’s a fantastic line-up, and I plan to make the most of it. I’ll be here for the rest of the day.

Karen:
Are there any acts in particular you’re looking forward to seeing?

Kerr Messer:
Definitely. A few of my friends are performing today, so I’m excited to catch up with them and support their sets. I’m also really looking forward to seeing Sky Newman perform at 8 p.m., and of course, I’ll be sticking around for Lewis Capaldi’s headline set.

Karen:
It sounds like you have a great day ahead. Thank you so much for your time, Kerr – it’s been a pleasure speaking with you. We hope to catch up with you again soon and continue following your journey.

Kerr Messer: Thank you very much, Karen. I appreciate your support and look forward to chatting again in the future!
