Scottish Music Network’s own Karen recently had the pleasure of catching up with one of Scotland’s brightest rising stars: Cammy Barnes. Cammy was still buzzing from a huge milestone in his career – he’d just opened the main stage at a major festival. Of course, in true Scottish fashion, the famous drizzle made an appearance! Cammy laughed off the soggy weather, joking that he was “a bit wet”, but it was clear that not even the rain could dampen his mood. He described the experience as “a mad bucket list mental moment”, his face lighting up as he remembered the crowd jumping, singing, and creating an electric energy that fuelled his entire set. To top it off, Cammy proudly earned his coveted “blue” – most likely a backstage pass or a special token of recognition – making the whole day even more unforgettable.
It’s clear that Cammy’s career is on a serious upward trajectory. During their conversation, Karen pointed out his growing social media following and a string of UK Top 20 singles. Cammy was quick to share the spotlight, saying, “We’re hustling… I’ve got a good team around me now – we’re all grafting and supporting each other.” His gratitude for his team’s hard work was evident. But the good news didn’t stop there! Cammy excitedly revealed that his latest single, “Let Me Down”, had just broken into the official Top 10 – a massive achievement. And as if that wasn’t enough, he shared that he’s just signed a deal for his debut album, which fans can expect to drop by the end of this year or early next year.
For those hoping to catch Cammy live, there’s plenty to look forward to. His calendar is packed, with upcoming performances in Belarus, a set at the State Fair, summer sessions in Angus, and a much-anticipated appearance at Belladrum. On top of all that, Cammy had even more exciting news: “We’ve just announced a Scottish tour this morning,” he said, his enthusiasm shining through.
Their chat also took a fun turn as they talked about the buzzing festival atmosphere. Cammy was just as keen to soak up the music as he was to perform – he shared his plans to catch sets from fellow artists Dylan John Thomas, Richard Ashcroft, and George Bowie before heading back on stage later that evening. To add a bit of Scottish banter, Karen and Cammy swapped thoughts on the national football team’s chances, with Cammy optimistically hoping for a “big win” and Karen noting that the tournament was wide open.
