CONCERT REVIEW : Tom Walker, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow BRITs Week 2025, 3rd March 2025

The event, held in association with Radio Clyde, was part of a series of benefit gigs supporting the War Child charity.

The night started with a queue snaking down St Vincent Street, in the rain and cold but not a jot was given by the shivering punters… Tom Walker was in town!

Glasgow’s iconic King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut was packed to the rafters for a sold-out BRITs Week 2025 show, featuring Tom Walker in an intimate setting that made for an unforgettable night.

The evening opened with impressive support acts Aaron Rowe and Kerr Mercer, who both set the tone with heartfelt performances and won over the crowd with their raw talent and engaging stage presence.

Hailing from the Republic of Ireland, Aaron was making his first appearance in Glasgow and it was obvious from the very first second that he was here for the craic as well as the music.

Cracking voice, witty and fond of a Vodka, Blackcurrant and lemonade he won the crowd over and then some… his debut single, ‘Drawing the Line’, will be released in April.

Next up was local rising star, Kerr Mercer, with his brand of soulful music. He looked nervous but had no need to worry as the Glasgow crowd like to encourage a local talent.

A short slow set showcased his voice despite him declaring his music as being dull and a huge stand out was his track ‘Carry Me Home’.

The support sets, though short, were a fitting prelude to the main act.

Prior to the headliner, Amber from Clyde 1 took to the stage to speak to the crowd about the War Child charity… War Child have, via gig revenue, raised the incredible sum of over £7 million for children affected by wars in various parts of the world. She encourage the crowd members to Text ‘HOPE’ to 70225 and give what they can afford…

When Tom Walker took to the stage, the atmosphere was electric. Though his set was shorter than usual, Walker made every moment count, delivering a mix of soulful ballads and anthemic hits that showcased his powerful vocals and emotional depth.

Fan favourites like ‘Leave a Light On’ and ‘Just You and I’ had the audience singing along with lung busting gusto. His candid interactions between songs only added to the intimacy of the night, creating a genuine connection with the crowd. He was obviously struggling a bit as he declared that he was “f****d” and dosed out on paracetamol but, like any true professional, he soldiered on.

The combination of Walker’s raspy voice, heartfelt lyrics, and the venue’s legendary acoustics made for a memorable performance, proving that sometimes less truly is more. As the final notes echoed through King Tut’s, it was clear that this BRITs Week show had been something special — a night of music that lingered long after the lights came up.

Overall, Tom Walker’s performance was a reminder of the power of live music to bring people together, especially when it’s for a cause as vital as War Child.

Oh… He also declared that his biggest fan, his gran, wasn’t here for the local gig as “I’ve seen you about 6 times already at King Tut’s son!”

You cannae beat yer granny…
