Scottish Music Network arrived at the venue early (6pm to be precise) due to other commitments having been fulfilled… The queue for the Barrowland was already over 100m long and the uber fan at the very front had come prepared with deck chair and provisions; she had been there for the long haul!
6pm is early by any standards for a 9pm kick off; especially in typical Glasgow rain. I think Liam Gallagher would describe the rain as biblical. So, kudos to the young fans!
The security staff got the queue moving around 7pm and made the stay short for the impatient and wet fans… let’s face it, the staff don’t want to be hanging around outside longer than they have to!
The cowboys boots and colourful sequinned cowboy hats were a splash of much needed colour and good spirit in the gloom and transformed the venue seething mass of joy and anticipation.
Megan Moroney was in town and her fans were loving it! Young and old; seasoned campaigners and Megan virgins merged onto the famous old Ballroom floor and the buzz was palpable.
On the stroke of 9pm the lights dimmed, the lung busting cheers went up ands a blonde ball of energy skipped onto the hallowed stage. It’s Megan time people!
American Country Pop is en vogue right now due, in no small part, to the Taylor Swift Eras tour and the Savannah, Georgia lass is bringing her version to the world with her ‘Georgia Girl ‘ Tour. Glasgow loves a party and if that party comes wrapped in colour, dampness and joy then Glaswegians are ‘Right up for it!”
Blasting off with “Lucky” the pocket rocket had the crowd hanging on her every word was she danced and sang with everything she had… and she had a lot!
This particular SMN contributor had scant knowledge of Ms Moroney and her works but any misgivings or worries were blasted away by the end of song… this girl is good!
With the guitar; without the guitar; singing; dancing… the works. Megan Moroney is a proper entertainer and her 19 song set was amazing in every respect. To be so young and yet son talented is quite something.
Blend this talent with a tight band and a fanatic crowd and you have the perfect night of entertainment. Every person lucky enough to be in the Barrowlands Ballroom will have been blown away by the spectacle; the joy was there in the faces of the fans for all to see… even a grisly old, cynical reviewer left with the biggest smile on his face and after decades worth of gigs, that isn’t always a given!
Megan Moroney is welcome back in Glasgow any time and not every performer can say that about the city.
Scottish Music Network predicts The Hydro as Megan’s next venue in Glasgow… just don’t leave it too long
