CONCERT REVIEW : GREEN DAY BELLAHOUSTON PARK GLASGOW 29TH JUNE 2022

Green Day made a triumphant live return to Glasgow last night, 5 YEARS after their original show was rained off.

Their summer slot in 2017 was cancelled just hours before gates were due to open, thanks to a waterlogged stage. Summer in Scotland, eh?

Support came from Amyl & The Snifflers, Weezer and Fall Out Boy.

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Blitzkrieg Bop” by The Ramones served as the audio introduction for the Kings of Punk Rock; the crowd sang and danced along cementing the party vibe for the set.

Green Day tore into “American Idiot”, the song responsible for the band’s resurgence in 2004 whipping fans into a frenzy, followed by hit after hit after hit!

“Hitchin’ A Ride”, “Welcome To Paradise”, “When I Come Around”, “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”, “Minority” and signature song, “Basket Case” all got an airing. After 2 years of Covid cancellations, Green Day certainly gave the people what they wanted, a riotous ride through their Greatest Hits.

Fans were also treated to a KISS cover in the form of “Rock ‘N’ Roll All Nite” and the band’s take on “Knowledge” by Operation Ivy, with a lucky fan plucked from the audience on guitar.

Closing the incredible set, Billie Joe Armstrong sang, “I hope you had the time of your life …”, never has there been a more fitting sentiment for a show.

Worth the wait.
