Absolutely everyone pouring out of the O2 Academy Glasgow on Saturday night was buzzing with the same electric feeling: THIS was the show we had all been waiting for! The line-up was nothing short of epic – Return to Dust, Chevelle, and Breaking Benjamin each hit the stage with their own unique energy, and the result was pure magic. From thunderous riffs that rattled your bones to massive, sing-along choruses that had the entire crowd raising their voices as one, every moment was unforgettable. It was a night of musical brilliance, shared by fans who knew they had just witnessed something truly special.
Kicking off the night with a bang, Return to Dust from Los Angeles took to the stage and instantly electrified the near-capacity crowd! With barely a moment’s hesitation, they launched into their set, effortlessly captivating the Glasgow audience from the very first note. Their powerful fusion of grunge-inspired rock and modern, hard-hitting riffs sounded phenomenal in the Academy’s buzzing atmosphere. Tracks like “Black Road”, “Shine”, and “Sweet Escape” displayed exactly why Return to Dust is a band you absolutely need on your radar – each song a testament to their raw energy and incredible talent.
This was Return to Dust’s first ever performance in Glasgow, and when they shared that with the crowd, the response was nothing short of heartwarming. The audience roared their approval, showering the band with a wave of Glaswegian hospitality. As if that was not enough, the band threw in a wildly fun surprise – a cover of OutKast’s iconic “Hey Ya!” – which had the entire venue grinning and singing along, turning the Academy into a sea of smiles and moving feet. To cap it all off, they delivered a thunderous rendition of “Belly Up”, leaving everyone absolutely buzzing.
You could see just how much it meant to Return to Dust to be on that stage – their excitement was infectious, radiating out to every corner of the room. By the end of their set, the audience responded with raucous, well-deserved applause, making it a truly unforgettable start to the evening. If this performance is anything to go by, Return to Dust are destined for big things.
Next up was Chevelle, and the energy in the venue instantly skyrocketed the second they took the stage! From the very first note, they proved once again exactly why they have earned their legendary status over the years. Their performance was nothing short of electrifying – tight, thunderously loud, and overflowing with effortless cool. Pete Loeffler’s vocals were flawless, soaring above the crowd with precision and passion, while his guitar work, paired with the monstrous riffs and pounding rhythms, shook the entire place to its core. The rhythm section was a force of nature, locking everything in with relentless power.
When they launched into fan favourites like “The Red”, “Send the Pain Below”, and “Face to the Floor”, the crowd absolutely erupted – singing every single lyric at the top of their lungs, creating an unforgettable, communal atmosphere. Even their newer tracks fit seamlessly into the setlist, sounding just as iconic and powerful as the classics. What made the whole performance even more impressive was that Chevelle did not rely on flashy visuals or over-the-top gimmicks. They let the music speak for itself – just killer songs, played with raw, unfiltered intensity.
Every moment of their set was a testament to their talent and showmanship. Chevelle sounded phenomenal, their stage presence was magnetic, and they delivered a performance that left everyone buzzing. It was a masterclass in rock, and the crowd loved every second!
And then – finally! – the moment the entire crowd had been buzzing about all night arrived. As the house lights plunged the academy into darkness, a wave of anticipation rippled through the audience. Suddenly, Breaking Benjamin strode onstage, and the atmosphere ignited – electricity shot through the air, and you could feel the collective heartbeat of the crowd quicken. The opening notes of “I Will Not Bow” exploded from the speakers, instantly setting the stage for a night that would become nothing short of legendary.
From the very first song, Benjamin Burnley’s vocals were on fire – powerful, raw, and flawless. The band’s signature harmonies and thunderous guitars surged with every note, reverberating through the venue and wrapping everyone in a wall of sound. Every inch of the O2 Academy pulsed with energy, and you could see the excitement reflected in every face.
Front and centre were Ben, the band’s apprentice, flanked by Benjamin and Aaron. Not only did he crush it with backing vocals and guitar, but he also played hype man – rallying the audience and encouraging everyone to raise their voices and join in. His genuine enthusiasm was infectious, making the crowd roar even louder.
The setlist was a dream come true for fans, packed with one anthem after another: “So Cold”, “Polyamorous”, “Breath”, “Dear Agony”, and “Failure” sent the crowd into a frenzy. Newer tracks like “Awaken” and “Something Wicked” fit seamlessly, showing the band’s evolution while still delivering that classic Breaking Benjamin punch. Every chorus became a massive singalong, with hundreds of voices merging as one – those magical moments that make live music feel irreplaceable.
The emotional peak of the night came with a haunting, powerful performance of “Dance With the Devil”. You could feel the emotion hanging in the air, uniting the band and fans in an unforgettable connection. But the band saved the best for last – the epic closer, “The Diary of Jane”. As the final chords rang out, nobody wanted the night to end. The crowd erupted with cheers, applause, and shouts of gratitude, sending Breaking Benjamin off with an ovation worthy of such an incredible show.
Throughout the night, the sound was crystal clear, every note and lyric resonating perfectly. The lighting was spot on, shifting from moody blues to explosive strobes, amplifying every twist and turn of the set. And despite the Academy being packed, the show felt intensely personal, like a private party with your favourite band.
It was a night of pure rock magic – one that everyone there will be talking about for years to come!
