Headline Sold-Out Show at London’s Finsbury Park July 4
Following the announcement of their forthcoming ninth studio album Act III and a raucous performance on Saturday Night Live in April, Kasabian have released the album’s third taste in the kaleidoscopic new single ‘SUPERPOWERS’. A track with a distinct G-Funk flavour, ‘SUPERPOWERS’ is a laidback, synth-driven number with smooth tones and an infectious pop filled chorus. “I remember hearing ‘Doggy Style’ by Snoop in my mate’s XR2, one of those tracks that makes you go “what?” because you’ve never heard anything quite like it,” Serge says of the inspiration for the song. “When we recorded ‘SUPERPOWERS’ it was the first time I really felt like the sound that I could hear in my head was what came out of the speakers.”
Serge also took the track’s lyrics and shot a series of audition tapes with acclaimed actor Stephen Graham for the release of the track. Serge explains, “Audition tapes have always fascinated me. There’s something incredible about seeing a performance in its rawest form. I wanted to bring that feeling to life by turning the song’s lyrics into a script and presenting it as an audition tape. Getting to work with Stephen Graham, one of Britain’s greatest actors, was a true honour. The band’s 9th studio album, with their last 7 all going straight in at #1 in the UK Official Album Chart, Act III was recorded at The Sergery and Club Ralph and produced by Serge and Mark Ralph. Draped in Serge’s instantly recognisable hazy vocals, the album is 10 tracks of guitar-driven, psyche-infused pop and 3 interludes. Packed to the brim with hooks and a strong dose of swagger, the album cements Kasabian as one of the UK’s most essential bands of the 21st century. A culmination not just of the last six years with Serge at the helm, but Kasabian’s entire career, the album looks forward while taking aspects from the band’s earliest days with a visceral raw energy.
The band returns to London this summer for a massive sold-out headline celebration at Finsbury Park on July 4th. Support comes from Louis Dunford, Razorlight, The K’s, Miles Kane and SOFY. The band will also play a string of festivals across the UK and Europe this summer, including headlining the very first main stage slot at Leeds Festival, Boardmasters, Victorious Festival, Mad Cool Festival, and more.
