Grammy-nominated guitarist, producer and composer Cory Wong has released today a brand new funk-fuelled single ‘The Grid Generation’ featuring LA-based electro jazz-funk multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Louis Cole. ‘The Grid Generation’ is the latest track to be taken from Wong’s forthcoming new album The Lucky One, and presents both Wong and Cole’s enthusiasm for strong horn lines, energetic guitar riffs and killer basslines.

‘The Grid Generation feat. Louis Cole’

The Lucky One is Wong’s fourth studio album and is set for release on August 18th 2023 via Roundwound Media. Wong will also perform his biggest UK headline show to date at the 5000-capacity Eventim Apollo in London this autumn in addition to a string of live dates across the UK where he’ll be playing his two brand new Signature Stratocaster guitars designed in association with Fender.

Cory Wong:

“Louis Cole is a once in generation talent. He’s got a singular voice on the drums and it brings so much energy. The way he approaches rhythm on the drums is very similar to the way I approach rhythm on the guitar. Louis and I have talked for years about the fact that we are growing up in a generation where so much music is made ‘on the grid’ (to a metronome). Often times modern musicians snap their music right on the grid and it can start to feel lifeless; but Louis and I have an approach of recording on the grid, but letting the grid breathe. I think it’s important to keep the human elements of rhythm and the push-pull energy that naturally happens when we play our instruments.”

Wong, who is also a member of the internationally acclaimed funk-jam band Vulfpeck, continues to go from strength to strength and in recent years has sold out shows all over the world in prestigious venues including New York’s Madison Square Garden, graced the cover of magazines, collaborated with the likes of Jon Batiste, Tom Misch, Victor Wooten, and the Metropole Orchestra amongst many others, released signature products (including a Signature Fender Strat) and launched unique educational opportunities like 4th Position Academy (which provides online guitar courses to musicians of all ages and abilities).
