alt-J have released a remix of U&ME, the first single taken from their hugely anticipated fourth album THE DREAM, set for release on 11 February via Infectious Music / BMG. The track has been reworked by GRAMMY nominated electronic maverick BAAUER, giving a dramatic makeover of the original. Lead singer Joe Newman’s vocals are stretched into thrilling new shapes and Baauer underpins them with his trademark thumping drums, pushing the track into a truly euphoric realm. It is Baauer’s second remix for the band, following In Cold Blood in 2017.

The original track found alt-J moving between blissful euphoria and artful restraint, telling a love story through snapshot memories as the song channels the band’s unparalleled experimentation into a song shot through with a raw sense of joy. The track was released alongside an innovative video that saw the band utilise deepfake technology and is the first to feature the entire band. The original video has also been remixed, with the deepfake footage being twisted into new shapes.

U&ME was premiered in the Hottest Record slot by Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1, named as The Sunday Times Hottest track and led the band to grace the cover of Spotify’s The Indie Playlist upon its release.

The album will be available on CD and 180g vinyl as well as various limited colour vinyl formats. There will also be a limited-edition hardback book CD that reproduces the notebook Joe Newman used to write THE DREAM featuring his original handwritten lyrics and drawings. The official artist store also includes merchandise bundles with signed print and exclusive cassette and vinyl formats.

Pre-order / Pre-save THE DREAM:

U&ME was written during various soundchecks across the globe. When the band got back to London and heard the recordings, they knew it was one of their most dynamic songs to date. Speaking on the process, Joe Newman says, “It gathered momentum on its own, it was best to just get out of its way; we were just there”.

Elaborating on the meaning of U&ME, Gus Unger-Hamilton adds, “It’s about being at a festival with your best friends, having a good time, togetherness, and the feeling in life that nothing could be any better than it is right now”.

The band are set to embark on a huge tour of North America in 2022, including shows at legendary venues such as Madison Square Gardens in New York City and the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. With more shows still to be announced, 2022 is set to be the band’s biggest year yet. For ticket information, please visit:
