In a year that has seen an impressive and rapid rise, Scottish singer-songwriter Kerr Mercer today unveils his debut body of work – In The Hours After – a stunning EP of infectious, soul-laced music that reflects top-class songwriting far beyond his young years.
Littered with hooks and melodies that are simply inescapable, the EP includes the viral successes of previous singles ‘Stop Me Dead’, ‘Love Me Twice’, ‘Terrified ‘ & ‘Alcohol’. Arriving as the 5-track’s final offering, ‘Hurts‘ sums up exactly what Kerr Mercer is all about – raw, heartfelt lyricism paired with the kind of soaring chorus that’s fast becoming his trademark, capping off a powerful and impressive debut release
For the last few years, the Lanarkshire-born artist was already selling out venues across the UK, before releasing any music, building a fiercely loyal fanbase through live performances and viral online clips – catching early attention from BBC Scotland. Making the deliberate decision to tour extensively before releasing any music, Kerr allowed real audiences to connect with his songs first, creating an organic and devoted following.
His debut single ‘Alcohol’ arrived just last year and has already surpassed one million streams, followed by the deeply emotional ‘Terrified’ and the breakout success of ‘Love Me Twice’. Kerr has also earned the support of some of the industry’s biggest artists, including Teddy Swims, Myles Smith and Lewis Capaldi.
Recent months have seen Kerr continue his rapid ascension. Following a standout performance at The Great Escape, he opened the main stage at TRNSMT, as well as supporting Lewis Capaldi at Roundhay Park in Leeds. He also recorded a stunning live session at Maida Vale Studios for Jess Iszatt’s BBC Introducing radio show, and has been receiving huge support from BBC Radio 1 Future Artists.
From early open mic nights in Glasgow to sold-out headline shows at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Kerr’s reputation as a must-see live performer has grown rapidly. A sold-out UK headline tour further cemented his status as one of Scotland’s most promising new artists.
Looking ahead, Kerr is set to perform the biggest show of his career this weekend – supporting Lewis Capaldi at BST Hyde Park in London on July 11th & 12th, and then a performance at this year’s Boardmasters Festival in Newquay.
With the release of In The Hours After, Kerr Mercer continues his remarkable momentum and offers another glimpse into a hugely exciting year ahead. The sky truly is the limit for the young Scot.
