Karen had the opportunity to sit down with Elle Coves, who will be performing on the BBC Introducing stage at this year’s TRNSMT Festival. During their engaging conversation, Elle shared her insights and experiences, offering a glimpse into her musical journey and what audiences can expect from her upcoming performance.
Karen (Scottish Music Network):
Good afternoon. I’m Karen from the Scottish Music Network, and today I have the pleasure of speaking with the talented Elle Coves. Elle, thank you for joining us – how are you today?
Elle Coves:
I’m very well, thank you. It’s a real pleasure to be here and to be a part of the festival.
Karen:
I’m glad to hear that. Are you enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having recently?
Elle:
Absolutely! It’s been unseasonably warm back home as well, which has been such a pleasant surprise. I’m really enjoying this sunshine – it’s a welcome change.
Karen:
I couldn’t agree more. The last couple of days have been wonderful, though we might want to forget about Friday’s weather! Is this your first time attending or performing at TRNSMT?
Elle:
Yes, it is – both attending and performing. This is my first time at TRNSMT, and I’m beyond excited to be a part of it.
Karen:
You’re scheduled to take the stage at 6:30 this evening. Are you feeling more nervous or excited about the performance?
Elle:
I’d say it’s a combination of both. I’m definitely excited, but there are some nerves as well. This is actually my first time playing an outdoor festival during the summer, so that’s a new experience for me. I sometimes worry about whether there will be a crowd, especially since CMAT is performing at the same time – and I’m a huge fan! But overall, I’m really looking forward to it and know it will be an invaluable experience.
Karen:
I have no doubt you’ll have a great audience – people are eager to see you perform. Will you be debuting any new material during your set today?
Elle:
Yes, I will. I’m excited to share a brand new track called “Rumours”, which will be my next single. That’s all I can reveal at the moment, but I can’t wait for everyone to hear it live for the first time.
Karen:
That sounds very exciting! I also noticed that you’ve taken inspiration from some fantastic artists and have even toured with the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Nile. What was that experience like for you?
Elle:
It was truly incredible. I had the opportunity to support Lewis about four years ago, which was actually before I had released any of my own music. The whole experience felt surreal, but it was also a tremendous learning opportunity. Observing artists like Lewis and Nile up close really shaped my perspective on live performance and has inspired me to continually develop and refine my craft.
Karen:
That’s really insightful. Growth often comes from observing others and incorporating what resonates with us into our own creative process, especially when it comes to songwriting.
Elle:
Exactly. Every festival or concert I attend leaves me feeling inspired and motivated to write more music. Live music has such a positive and energising influence on my creativity.
Karen:
Are there any other festivals or events you’ll be performing at this summer?
Elle:
Yes, I have a few lined up. I’ll be performing at Latitude Festival soon, and later in the year, I’ll be heading to Austin City Limits in Texas, where I’ll be playing the Pipeline Stage for the first time in October. There are also a number of smaller shows coming up throughout the season.
Karen:
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for those performances. Do you find yourself constantly working on new music, even while you’re touring and performing?
Elle:
Absolutely. I’m always writing and developing new material, no matter where I am. At the moment, I’m finishing up my next project, and I hope to have something ready for release by the end of the summer.
Karen:
Have you had an opportunity to explore any of the festival so far today?
Elle:
We just arrived a short while ago, but I did manage to catch a bit of Westside Cowboy and Perry, and I thought Eller was fantastic. Unfortunately, due to our travel schedule, we have to fly out right after my set, so I’ll miss CMAT and Lewis, which I’m genuinely disappointed about.
Karen:
Hopefully you’ll have another opportunity to catch their performances in the future. Elle, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today. It’s been a pleasure, and we wish you a fantastic set and continued success for the rest of the summer.
Elle:
