After experiencing the lively performance of indie band Bogle at Glasgow’s vibrant music venue SWG3 back in May, fans were eager to see what was next for the up and coming local group. Their debut EP, ‘Shimmer Guitar Pop’ certainly doesn’t disappoint. Released recently on July 18th ,this four track collection was mixed and mastered by Andy Miller of Gargleblast Studio in the band’s hometown of Hamilton. It showcases the band’s distinctive sound and clear love for psychedelia, 1960s guitar pop, shoegaze and Scottish Pop. This release only solidifies that Bogle is definitely on the rise and deserves every bit of recognition. Check it out HERE
The EP opens with ‘A Past Blunder’, a track that fans who attended the SWG3 show were lucky enough to hear before it’s official release. Immediately the song hypnotises listeners through entrancing 60s style harmonies, layered textures and shimmering melodies, key elements in their evolving sound. However, alongside the retro influences driving this track, the band brings a fresh energy and emotional depth. Through reflective lyricism, Bogle leaves a clear poetic resonance, using subtle layers of word painting and musical metaphors. This creates a deeply introspective listening experience that injects a more contemporary feel; not just in this song but across the entire EP. ‘A Past Blunder’ is an incredibly strong opener that sets the tone for the rest of the EP, that balances dreamy instrumentation and sonic richness with deep introspection.
The EP also features, ‘Way Up There’, ‘Strangers’ and ‘Beyond My Reach’ , each of which brings a unique angle whilst maintaining the band’s cohesive sonic identity. From glistening guitar tones to hazy vocal layering, each song builds upon the dreamy, introspective atmosphere set by the opener, further highlighting Bogle’s strength in creating emotionally resonant and richly textured music.
All four songs on the EP were written by the four members of Bogle: Joseph O’Donnell, Adam Mcafferty, Jacob Duffy and Evie Seenan, with each track showcasing the group’s shared vision and clear passion for music. Having played gigs in Glasgow for only the past 2 years, Bogle already demonstrates a rare ability to blend vintage and modern influences, creating a sound that is timelessly classic whilst remaining uniquely their own. With this in mind, ‘Shimmer Guitar Pop’ reinforces Bogle’s bright future and marks an exciting step forward in the bands musical journey.
