CONCERT REVIEW : Tom Walker – o2 Academy Glasgow 1st May 2024

On a pleasant night in the city, the first sign of summer approaching is evident as Glasgow fans of Tom Walker line up outside the venue. They eagerly hold flyers from the support band, Kingfishr, who are currently touring the UK with Tom Walker before returning to the city later in the year. These flyers serve as a positive reminder of the band performing tonight.

As the venue quickly filled with crowds, the lights dimmed. The three-piece support band, Kingfishr, consisting of Edmond Keogh, Eoghan McGrath, and Eoin Fitzgibbon, greeted fans at the front of the stage with smiles and nods. They delivered a short yet powerful set, starting with the impressive “Heart in the Water” that captivated the audience. The band had a fantastic time performing for the Glasgow crowd, engaging with fans and gaining new followers with their energetic performance.

Some standout songs in their set were “Eyes Don’t Lie,” “Afterglow,” and the lovely “Leave.” The band has a fantastic sound, with powerful vocals and harmonies. It was clear they were having a great time performing, as evident in their expressions and interactions with the Glasgow audience. Despite it being a short support slot, they ended on a high note with the exceptional “Caroline,” leaving the crowd wanting more. It was evident that the band enjoyed the set as much as the Glasgow audience did as they exited the stage.

Tom Walker was ready to perform for his second night at the venue, following a highly praised show the night before. The excitement in the venue was palpable as the lights dimmed, eagerly anticipating Tom Walker’s arrival on stage. The band kicked things off with the intro to “Holy Ghost” before Tom joined them, captivating the Glasgow audience with his incredible vocals. Songs like “Rapture,” “Wait For You,” and the crowd-favourite “Head Underwater” had everyone singing and dancing along, with Tom’s powerful stage presence and vocals leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The set featured standout performances of Blessings, Fly Away, and The Best Is Yet to Come. As the set neared its end, the crowd sang along enthusiastically to songs like Cry Out and Not Giving Up. Tom concluded the set with the captivating Burn, bidding farewell to the Glasgow audience with a promise to return. After a brief intermission, he returned to perform fan-favourite hits, starting the encore with Better Half of Me, which had the Glasgow crowd singing along to the song. Tom’s expression showed his enjoyment of every moment of the show. The set ended on a high note with the unforgettable Leave A Light On, providing a memorable conclusion to the sold-out performance.

Tom was amazed that he had sold out the venue for two nights. He couldn’t believe it when he talked about it during the show. The atmosphere inside the venue was electric from start to finish. The audience was singing along and dancing to Tom Walker’s fantastic music.
