CONCERT REVIEW : Tiny Habits – Saint Luke’s 26th May 2024

On a Sunday night, the vibrant city of Glasgow came alive as the energetic pop trio Tiny Habits from Boston, USA, took over the Saint Lukes venue. Currently on their UK and European tour, the trio electrified the audience with their catchy tunes and lively performances. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as fans gathered to experience an unforgettable night of music. Adding to the excitement, the supporting act, Shallow Alcove from New York, USA, warmed up the crowd with their unique sound, setting the stage for an evening filled with incredible music and unforgettable memories. As the night unfolded, it was clear that both bands had left an indelible mark on the Glasgow music scene.

Opening the show, the four-piece band Shallow Alcove took to the stage, captained by the talented Grace Krichbaum. Her angelic vocals effortlessly filled the venue, mesmerising the audience with each note. Specialising in acoustic folk, the band’s set was laden with beautiful harmonies that added depth and emotion to each song. The chemistry between band members was evident, fostering a warm, family-like atmosphere that resonated with the crowd. Memorable moments from their performance included the heartfelt “Heart Shaped Locket” and the whimsical “Music Box.” Grace’s invitation for a brief meditation during the enchanting “Tulips” added a unique touch to their set. Shallow Alcove also impressed with a stellar cover of Beabadoobee’s “Glue Song,” before tugging at the heartstrings of the Glasgow audience with their powerful rendition of “Grace,” leaving a lasting impression on all who were present.

The band was thrilled to perform at the Saint Luke’s venue, particularly because of its unique charm as an old converted church. It had been nearly a decade since they had last stepped foot in a church, and they were excited to share this experience with their new friends. The Glasgow audience welcomed them with open arms, giving an enthusiastic reception to their closing song, “Dream Song.” As the set ended, the band members expressed their gratitude by waving goodbye and inviting the audience to join them at the merchandise desk for a chat. Their beaming smiles and lively interactions made it clear that they thoroughly enjoyed playing for the Glasgow crowd and were successful in gaining new fans along the way.

Next up was the main band, Tiny Habits, hailing from Boston, USA. Comprising Cinya Khan, Maya Rae, and Judah Mayowa, the folk-pop band received a rapturous welcome from the Glasgow fans. The band released their debut album “All For Something” over the weekend, and the audience enthusiastically welcomed the band’s choice to open their show with the track “Circling” from the new album. The beautiful harmonies created by the trio captivated everyone in attendance, and it was clear from the smiles on their faces that they were revelling in the electric atmosphere of the Glasgow venue.

The opening part of the set was truly captivating, featuring standout performances of “Small Enough” and “Mudroom,” along with a remarkable cover of Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”. The band’s unique interpretation and synergy truly made the song their own, captivating the audience with their powerful rendition. Following these performances, the band members announced that each would sing a solo piece. This decision proved to be a delightful surprise, as the acoustics of the venue perfectly accentuated the incredible harmonies, allowing each member’s distinct voice to shine, adding depth and richness to the overall musical experience.

Maya took the stage and set the tone with her soul-stirring performance of “Broken.” The atmosphere then shifted as Cinya took over with her rendition of “Malleable,”  captivating the audience with her powerful vocals. The show reached new heights when Judah joined in, leaving the Glasgow audience in awe with his astounding vocal range. The trio then treated the crowd to a beautiful cover of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,”  which had everyone in the venue singing along at full voice. The energy in the room was palpable as both the band and audience danced and sang together, creating a joyful and memorable experience. The band concluded by thanking the excellent Shallow Alcove for their support, making the night even more special.

During their recent performance in Glasgow, the band delivered an unforgettable experience to their enthusiastic audience. As the set neared its conclusion, the band surprised the crowd with an outstanding cover of Fleetwood Mac’s classic “Landslide,”  showcasing their versatility and musical prowess. They followed this up with a stunning rendition of “Hemenway” from their “Tiny Things” EP, captivating the audience with their heartfelt performance. The band ended the set on a high note with their energetic song “Pennies” before closing the show with the title track from the “Tiny Things” EP. The joy and satisfaction on the band members’ faces were evident, reflecting the incredible time they had performing in the city.

The audience at Saint Luke’s was truly captivated by the performances of both bands, which proved to be a match made in musical heaven.
