Checking out the press and seeing the brilliant Liverpool band Permanent (Joy), headlining King Tut’s in the city. The last time I saw them was when they were supporting Inhaler in the O2 Academy. So it was great to go along and see the band again.
It consists of Alex Davison, Dan Stroud, Dave Annis and Noah Roche. The last time at the O2, we managed to grab a wee chat with them; tonight they seemed a little busy getting sorted for their show, so we just let them get to it.
There was a decent crowd in the venue before the band took to the stage; as the lights went down, there was a great reception as the band took to the stage. The crowd, a good mix of males and females, was ready to enjoy the show from the band.
Alex Davison opened the set with Losing Control and Lucky, which had the audience singing and dancing along. Two great opening songs that set the tone for the set. Alex said it was great to be back in Glasgow and to play our only second headline set in the city; thank you for coming down.
When the band said they were playing old and new, but we are going back to some of the older songs this is Josephine that had the King Tuts crowd singing along and dancing to the excellent song. This was followed by Save My Life before the classic Aeroplane.
The sound the band produced is just gripping and they know how to work their audience with brilliant songs and great stage presence. This is a band that will be playing the bigger venues before too long.
The set was tight with great impact, treating their fans to old and new songs. They closed the set with the brilliant Role Models before ending the set with the awesome I Wanna Go Home.
You could see by their faces they were enjoying every second of the show; this energy carried through the Glasgow audience. This is one band that is going places, and if you get a chance, go out and see them live, as they are awesome. Permanent (Joy) are a band to watch out for as they create beautiful songs that transfer into their live shows; catch them before they are playing the bigger venues.
