A rainy evening in Glasgow marks the second night of Ocean Colour Scene’s performance at the O2 Academy. Despite the weather, attendees are undeterred, forming a long queue to enter the venue. The atmosphere buzzes with excitement as fans engage in conversation, eagerly anticipating tonight’s concert.
The opening act is none other than the talented Kula Shaker, consisting of Crispian Mills, Alonza Bevan, Paul Winterhart, and Jay Darlington. The ambiance was enhanced by the scent of incense wafting around the stage, complemented by a vibrant, psychedelic 70s-inspired backdrop of swirling colours. As the intro music played, the band stepped onto the stage, welcomed by an enthusiastic response from the Glasgow audience.
The band delivered a performance that truly energized the Glasgow audience, encouraging them to sing along and participate whenever possible. The more popular hits were saved for the latter part of the set, getting the crowd moving and singing to “Tattva” and “Hush.” However, several other tracks also shone during the performance, including “Idont’twannapaymytaxs,” which the frontman noted his son connects with, as well as “Broke as Folk” and the fantastic “Charge of the Light Brigade.”
The band received a warm round of applause as they concluded their set, which included “Hush” and wrapped up with “Govinda.” As the final notes echoed, the Glasgow audience greeted them with an enthusiastic reception as they exited the stage. The performance was vibrant and full of energy, truly captivating everyone in attendance. This was my first time seeing the band in a long while, and they have only grown more powerful and dynamic, their music radiating joy and smiles among the crowd. If you’ve never experienced this band live, make it a priority; they know how to deliver an unforgettable show and keep the audience entertained.
It was time to bring back to the stage Simon Fowler, Steve Cradock, Oscar Harrison, and Raymond Meade of Ocean Colour Scene for the second of their sold-out performances. As the lights dimmed and the band’s intro music began to play, the excitement in the venue escalated.
As the Glasgow audience caught their first glimpse of Oscar, Steve, Raymond, and Simon stepping to the front of the stage, they erupted in enthusiastic applause, giving the performers a warm welcome. The show kicked off with the fantastic song “The Circle,” which had the crowd singing along. The band sounded incredible, and Simon’s vocals were truly outstanding.
The performance was high-energy from the start, captivating the Glasgow audience and treating them to classics like “You’ve Got It Bad,” “Fleeting Mind,” “July,” and the outstanding “Profit in Peace.” The band’s enthusiasm was evident on their faces, and this energy resonated with the crowd, who needed little prompting to show their love for Ocean Colour Scene’s music. As the set moved into the band’s biggest hits, the venue buzzed with anticipation for the Glasgow crowd to join in. It was no surprise when they erupted in full voice for “Hundred Mile High City,” “The Riverboat Song,” and “Better Day.
As the set neared its conclusion, they wrapped it up flawlessly with “Get Blown Away,” the outstanding Travellers Tune, before finishing with “Get Away.” This wasn’t the end; it was merely a moment for Glasgow to catch its breath and for the band to absorb that extra surge of energy, as the audience was draining every ounce of passion from them tonight.
As the band made their way back to the stage, Simon delivered a stunning solo performance of “Robin Hood,” leaving the crowd in awe. Once the song concluded, it was time for the band to express their gratitude to the audience and to Glasgow for two incredible nights at the O2 Academy. They wrapped up the set with “The Day We Caught the Train,” prompting the audience to sing along enthusiastically with the band. As the last chord resonated, the band stepped forward to take their final bow. It was a memorable night for both the band and their Glasgow fans, one that would not be forgotten.
This evening, Glasgow enjoyed an exceptional musical experience, starting with a fantastic performance by Kula Shaker, followed by an incredible set from Ocean Colour Scene that elevated the entire show.
