CONCERT REVIEW : DAYSEEKER, SWG3, GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, UK, 9TH DECEMBER 2024

On a chilly night in the city, crowds assemble outside the SWG3 venue, eager to witness Orange County’s Dayseeker and Florida’s Rain City Drive, accompanied by Heart of Gold. This impressive lineup is set to light up the sold-out venue in Glasgow as part of the Dark Sun Protocol tour.

Kicking off the evening was Heart of Gold, and the excitement in the venue was palpable as they took the stage. They began their set with “Stranger (To Your Love),” showcasing their captivating sound that gradually draws you into their music. Highlights from their brief support set included the stunning tracks “Heaven” and “Co-Dependent,” which truly captivated the Glasgow audience. The band wrapped up their performance with the outstanding “See Through,” leaving the crowd in Glasgow thoroughly engaged and eager for more.

The atmosphere in the venue crackled with excitement as fans eagerly awaited Rain City Drive. As the lights dimmed and the intro music played, the palpable energy filled the air even before the band stepped onto the stage. The moment the band and frontman Matt McAndrew appeared, the crowd was primed for an unforgettable journey with Rain City Drive, who kicked off their set with the outstanding track “Frozen.” Matt expressed the band’s enthusiasm for returning to Glasgow. Among the standout moments of the performance were “Prayers,” “Blood Runs Cold,” and “Medicate,” featuring Dayseeker’s Rory Rodriguez.

Matt reflected on performances at venues like the Cathouse in the city, noting that this particular show is among the largest he has experienced. He introduced the next song, “Neverbloom,” sharing that it holds personal significance as it was written in memory of his late father. The performance was filled with passion, and the emotions resonated deeply through both the lyrics and the music. It marked a poignant moment in the concert. The band’s set concluded on a high note with the outstanding “Talk to a Friend,” leaving the audience in Glasgow eager for more. As they bid farewell, the band was met with a thunderous round of applause.

As the audience in Glasgow paused to catch their breath between sets, the anticipation grew as the stage crew prepared for Dayseeker. Following a brief intermission, it was time to welcome the boys from Orange County to the stage for their Dark Sun Protocol tour.

As the lights dimmed and the intro music began, Dayseeker’s moment to shine had arrived. Rory Rodriguez stepped into the spotlight, captivating the front-row audience from the very first chord as the band launched into their opening track, “Dreamstate.” The Glasgow crowd was completely enthralled as the band delivered a stunning performance of “Crooked Soul” and the exceptional “Homesick.” The highlight of the night came when the stage was cleared, leaving only Rory and a piano, as he performed a breathtaking rendition of “Midnight Eternal,” leaving the audience in sheer awe.

The band moved on to their title track, “Dark Sun,” followed by the fantastic “Without Me.” The audience in Glasgow was enjoying every moment of the performance, and their excitement surged when Rory welcomed Matt McAndrew back to the stage to deliver the beautiful “Paper Heart,” showcasing their stunning harmonies. This was a memorable highlight for the Glasgow crowd. Throughout the show, Rory’s vocals were exceptional, reaching impressive heights.

The band delivered a stunning rendition of Evanescence’s “My Immortal” in Glasgow before wrapping up their set with “Sleeptalk.” As the final notes echoed, the band bid farewell to the city, but the audience sensed this wasn’t truly the end. After a brief intermission, the band came back on stage to perform “Neon Grave,” with Rory expressing gratitude to the crowd for their support and for selling out the Glasgow show. It felt like a heartfelt thank you to each individual in the venue.
