BEABADOOBEE x LAUFEY
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER // VIDEO
British indie icon beabadoobee and Icelandic-Chinese artist, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Laufey have released the video for their collaborative single A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, starring dancers Louisa Fernando and Max Cookward, and directed by Jake Erland. Friends and admirers of one another’s music, the single blends the two musicians’ signature stylings for the first time and the video seamlessly reflects the sultry and heartwarming music.
Of the collaboration, beabadoobee says: “I’ve been writing with a lot of different rhythms recently, also with strings and nods to more classical sounds. Laufey is a great fit for this sound and we had started hanging out in London, so we got in the studio together to work on music and try ideas with my producer Jacob Bugden. We also hung out in New York on my tour and started becoming closer friends. We wrote A Night To Remember after deciding we wanted to write something that sounds grand but a bit more sexy lyrically and have fun with that theme.”
Laufey adds: “Bea has been one of my favourite musicians for a while so getting to write and sing with her was a dream come true. We both agreed that we wanted to write something a bit sexier for this project and A Night To Remember was born.
“There are so many songs about being rejected as a woman and this song is about being on the other side of the coin – having one great night then walking away. Reclaiming the narrative! This song is a true marriage of my and Bea’s sonic worlds and I can’t wait for the world to dive into the cinematic sound this offers.”
Born in the Philippines and raised in London, Beatrice Laus began recording music as beabadoobee in 2017. At just 23 years old, beabadoobee has two acclaimed albums and five sonically diverse EPs under her belt, while also receiving BRIT Award and BBC Sound Of nominations and won the NME 2020 Radar award. 2022’s follow up Beatopia is a fantastical yet deeply personal world that was formed in the imagination of a seven-year-old beabadoobee and has been carried with her ever since. Beatopia debuted in the Top 5 of the UK album chart and was accompanied by her biggest sold out UK tour to date, a huge North America tour and her first tour of Asia. beabadoobee has toured globally, supporting the likes of Taylor Swift, The 1975, Halsey and Clairo, as well as playing at some of the biggest festivals in the world, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Summer Sonic, Reading and Leeds and many more.
The release of A Night To Remember follows a string of single releases this year for beabadoobee, including hit single Glue Song and the way things go, along with her live album Live In London. She also supported global superstar Taylor Swift on the US leg of her record-breaking The Eras stadium tour and returned to the US for a run of sold out headline dates including two at New York’s Terminal 5 and a night at LA’s Greek Theatre. Next moth beabadoobee will appear at Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, her final live appearance before the end of the year.
Laufey (pronounced lāy-vāy) was raised between Reykjavik and Washington DC with annual visits to Beijing. Following the release of her 2021 Typical of Me EP, Laufey was named Best New Artist in Jazz and Blues at the Icelandic Music Awards. Her 2022 debut album, Everything I Know About Love, reached #1 on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Album chart, and she was the most streamed jazz artist on Spotify that year.
Her new album Bewitched broke the record as the biggest debut for a jazz album on Spotify in history, debuting at #2 on Spotify’s Global and US Album chart, as well as #23 on the Billboard 200, #1 on the Billboard Independent Album chart, #1 on the Current Traditional Jazz Album chart and #3 on Vinyl Albums chart. It has been praised by the likes of the New York Times, Variety, Los Angeles Times, Vogue, Pitchfork, the Washington Post and more.
