Melbourne’s Jess Ball first impacted as a go-to topliner for dance/electronica artists such as Dash Berlin, Radio 1’s Charlie Hedges and EDX before stepping into the alt-pop world as she launched her solo career in 2024. Influenced by Cigarettes After Sex, Olivia Dean and Massive Attack, releases such as last year’s debut EP ‘Where You Go’ and the  recent Jelani Blackman collab ‘Lately’ have earned initial praise from the likes of Clash and Clout. Today, Jess Ball shares the official video for her new single ‘Roundabouts’.

Jess Ball consistently shines with a vocal that’s as expressive as it is distinctive – and this dominates ‘Roundabouts’. Her voice captures the sorrow of realising that a relationship has run its course, but also the tiredness of trying to fight it and the acceptance that moving on is her only option. Set to a backdrop of alt-pop sonics, hip-hop beats and muted brass, it’s a song that will speak to fans who have gone through similar experiences and the perfect fit for 2026 chill playlists.

Jess says, “‘Roundabouts’ is a metaphor for going in circles in a relationship that isn’t moving forward. It’s about trying to make something work when, deep down, you know you’re stuck in the same patterns. The song explores the games we can find ourselves playing when feelings are involved. What begins as genuine love slowly turns into a tit-for-tat mentality. Instead of care and understanding, there’s toxicity, mind games, and jealousy. At its core, ‘Roundabouts’ is about recognising that cycle and choosing to step out of it. It’s about letting go of the illusion of control and allowing life to take its natural course.”

The ‘Roundabouts’ video was directed by Ben Willis, and was filmed in Spotswood, Melbourne. Jess adds, “We filmed the video with a constant sense of movement, using walking as a metaphor for growth. The changing landscapes and forward motion represent independence and a break away from the unhealthy cycles and habits we can sometimes find ourselves stuck in.”

Jess wrote ‘Roundabouts’ with the track’s producers Antoni Polimeni and Richy Sebastian. The duo have amassed over 500 million streams with credits including EDX, Tensnake and Curbi.

Having performed since childhood, Jess Ball’s first big breakthrough moment came in 2020 when she featured on EDX’s ‘I Found You (Neptune)’, a track which shot to #1 on Beatport’s Future House chart and gained traction in the States as one of SiriusXM’s biggest electro songs of the years. She later reunited with EDX on ‘Take Me Home’, while other big collabs in the electronica space included NERVO, Curbi, Charlie Hedges, Super8 & Tab and Dash Berlin.

Her subsequent solo career has focused on using vibrant, pop-infused music to channel her inner emotions. There’s no shying away, just a raw and unfiltered take on themes such as regret, anger and moving on – all things that we learn and grow from. That honesty and empowerment is earning a growing following with over 100 million streams during her rise to date.
