Having already made a name for himself as a prolific songwriter, both for his own work and countless others, singer and songwriter George Morgan aka The Beach has now returned to share his wonderfully euphoric new single ‘Still In Love’ produced by and co-written with Fyfe.
Channeling more of that rich and enticing texture that he always looks to bring to his work, ‘Still In Love’ sees him return with one of his most captivating and heartfelt offerings to date and his most pop! Influenced by a recent break-up, the song looks to call upon the raw and painful emotions that we all feel in the aftermath, focusing them into a broad and succinct confrontation of the self.
Speaking about his new single, he said, “Essentially a confession/play by play of how I acted/felt about my ex-girlfriend after we broke up. I convinced myself that I was over it but was brutally reminded I wasn’t when I bumped into her at a mutual friend’s birthday. You never know how you’re gonna react when you see an old flame out somewhere and I guess this song is my experience of still feeling something when I didn’t think I would.”
“The writing of the song was a pretty rare experience, I was 40mins late to the session with Fyfe as I was trying to gather my emotions before I turned up. On arrival the song just fell out and within 3 hours we had recorded the whole thing, which is how it is today. It was a great example of songwriting as therapy, I turned up to the session feeling terrible. And left feeling amazing listening to the song we’d just written on my headphones.”
George Morgan aka The Beach’s first steps found him working his way around London’s open mic circuit, armed with an acoustic guitar and influenced heavily by the work of Ben Howard. During this time, he shot a low-budget music video that ended up going viral on YouTube, resulting in landing the number 3 spot on iTunes singer/songwriter chart and soon after a record deal with RCA.
He started regularly releasing music and soon found himself on the road with the likes of Tom Odell, Rag’n’Bone Man, and Kodaline. During this period George continued to write his own material and also started to co-write with others. Initially resistant to the co-writing sessions he was thrust into, it was his experience of writing with A-list songwriters that really inspired him to hone the songwriting craft to make the best song possible and also to want to explore writing with and for other artists. One of the songs that came from co writing was the single ‘Bridge Back To Your Heart’, co-written with Jon Green (who has written for James Bay, Lady Antebellum, Kyle Minogue, 5SOS, Jason Mraz), which has gone onto achieve over 20 million streams.
His time at RCA was incredibly valuable to him as an artist and songwriter and built the foundation for the next stage of his journey. It was almost as if being signed and then being dropped by the label shaped him into the artist that he is today. From this point George has been deep diving into his exploration of the songwriting world and has started regularly writing for other artists. From 2018 onwards, having moved back to his parents place in Dorset, Morgan found himself even busier than ever. Constantly commuting to writing sessions in and out of London. The commutes left him with hours of driving time each week, which he filled with listening to whole catalogues of music from artists of all eras. That coupled with a break-up led to him having one of the most creative spells of his life so far, writing his EP ‘One’ with new found collaborators and also picking up a handful of cuts for other artists. One in particular, a track for Brazilian DJ Vintage Culture called ‘In The Dark’, topped the Billboard Dance chart in 2020. His hard work has definitely paid off.
Now reassured in his sound more than ever, The Beach is ready to start the next step in his evolutionary journey. Fuelled by a desire to take pop music to new and exciting places, he feels that he has finally found the drive he was searching for all along and knows that this is just the beginning of what he wants to achieve.
