Irvine’s 19-year-old pop singer Abbie Gordon is on a roll as she releases The Pavement, her fourth single of the year following Out Of Wine, Bottlemouth and Wet Rain and another entry in her ever-growing journal of relationship dramas.

“The Pavement is about being fresh out of a relationship and feeling scared to leave the house in case you run into your ex,” says Abbie. “I wrote it about that anxious feeling when everywhere you go reminds you of them, and even the places you used to know so well suddenly feel different. It’s about the struggle of trying to move on while the memories are still fresh, and how a simple walk down the street can feel overwhelming when your heart’s been broken. I wanted to capture that mix of sadness, anxiety and vulnerability that comes with losing someone and learning how to be on your own again.”

The Pavement hits just a week and a bit before Abbie makes her debut at Glasgow’s huge TRNSMT Festival, opening the BBC Introducing Stage on Sunday 21st June, with Lewis Capaldi at the other end of the lineup.

“I’ve imagined playing TRNSMT ever since I started writing songs so to open the BBC Introducing Stage on Lewis Capaldi day is just a dream come true! BBC Introducing Scotland do such an important job helping people to hear about new artists like me and they were the first to play my first single Out Of Wine the day it came out. I’m incredibly grateful to have their support and this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to get the TRNSMT Sunday party started!”

Abbie’s glistening vocals and whip-smart lyricism turn her generation’s complex toils into a real-time diary of growing up disgracefully. Through her signature knockout one-liners and anthemic melody lines, Abbie documents her feelings and mis-steps, learning (or not) as she goes. Her cool-girl fables call out the b.s. with each chunky-booted step.

Live, Abbie has paid dues opening for fast-rising contemporaries like Kerr Mercer on tour and Calum Bowie at the Barrowland Ballroom, with headline shows at Glasgow’s Poetry Club and King Tut’s increasing the buzz.

She plays the BBC Introducing Stage at Glasgow’s TRNSMT festival on 21st June and London for the first time on 15th July as special guest to Seattle pop singer songwriter Avery Cochrane.
