The Supernaturals release new album Show Tunes on 2 May 2025. Digital single Don’t Let The Past Catch Up With You leads on 10 April ahead of a mini tour across Scotland. The 14-track album is released with Last Night From Glasgow and pressed at Seabass Vinyl in Scotland. Show Tunes is available on limited edition white vinyl with obi strip and CD with alternative artwork plus 2 bonus tracks. The new album features previously released singles Burn the Witch and Roy Wouldn’t.
Known as one of Britpop’s best kept secrets The Supernaturals gained a cult following in the 90s for their catchy, relatable guitar pop. The band emerged in 1993, releasing their debut album It Doesn’t Matter Anymore in 1997. The album, which included hit single Smile, gained critical acclaim and reached No. 9 in the UK Album Chart. It was re-issued in 2023 by LNFG to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release.
After releasing their third LP in 2002, the band entered a decade long hiatus before reuniting in 2012. The group have released three albums since reforming. The Supernaturals play Stirling Tolbooth on 11 April, Tunnels in Aberdeen on 12 April and The Caves in Edinburgh on 13 April. They play the Pearce Institute in Glasgow on 31 May as part of the cities 850 celebrations. They are set to headline Saint Luke’s in Glasgow once again in December 2025, following the sellout success of their hometown gig at the venue in 2024.
The album is dedicated to the band’s original guitarist Derek McManus who tragically passed in 2022, “who always encouraged us to write, what he called Show Tunes”. In an interview with The Herald, keys player David Currie described the album as “a little bit darker, many of the lyrics talk about life and about things like that happening but recording it, I have to say, has been quite a relaxed process. James has written all the songs on it. We basically started off with an iPad and drum machine and built songs up from there. I think the fans will really like what they hear when it’s released”.
The current line up of The Supernaturals is James McColl (vocals, guitar, additional instrumentation), Gavin Crawford (drums), Mark Gurthie (bass), David Currie (backing vocals, piano) and Joe Greatorex (guitar, synths, backing vocals).
