“Hue and Cry go all-out electronica…and it suits them” ★★★★ The Scotsman

“…a stunning change in direction” Daily Express

Friday, May 29th 2026 – Award-winning, platinum-selling duo Hue And Cry have today released their 16th album Everybody.  A bold new chapter in a creative journey that began at the dawn of electronic pop, Everybody is released on CD, vinyl, digital and a limited-edition ultimate collector’s box set.

“There’s an element of wishing the Kanes had let out their house and disco side earlier, as they employ it so proficiently” – ★★★★ Classic Pop

Hue And Cry are one of the 1980s’ most formative soul pop groups with a string of chart friendly hits, including ‘Labour of Love’ and ‘Looking for Linda’. On Everybody the duo takes a new turn in a decades-long exploration of creative possibilities. The idea for the album grew from what Pat describes as “personal archaeology”, in which he dug into the instincts and impulses that defined Hue And Cry at the very beginning. “Pat wanted to make an electronic record, referencing Bowie’s Low along with Simple Minds, Japan and The Human League” explains Greg. Immersing himself in analogue and digital synthesis, he assembled what his brother calls a “man cave of oscillating objects.”

The result is an album where out-and-out electropop can sit alongside powerful Latin House and Future Disco. Telling deep romantic tales that mingle with high-concept scenarios and Greg Kane’s glittering soundscapes contain his brother Pat’s insistent, signature vocals.

“The 10 songs on Everybody are among the most direct and attention-grabbing that they’ve ever released, aimed straight at your feet without neglecting head or heart.” – Louder Than War

“Choruses that will stay in your head for a long time” – musicOMH

Everybody is the result of the duo sitting with analogue/digital music tech – DeepMind arpeggiators, hydrasynths, wavetables, classic drum machines – and allowing songs to emerge out of the electronic landscape around them, “I’m so, so proud of the work Pat and I did on this record.” Says Greg, “We went to places we’d never been before, and it seems we still have our sense of adventure, which I guess is down to a deep love of music and being creative.”. After two years of experimentation, the album was completed with mixing by Yoad Nevo (Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran).

Technology sits at the heart of the album’s creation as both subject and tool. “We wanted to build a future, so we built our future with our studio”, says Pat. Greg explains he “knew very little about analogue subtractive synthesis, but as a learning obsessive I set about skilling up. It took a while to get to grips it all, but once I got there you really can’t have much more fun.”

Whilst the band came to prominence during an era when electronic elements in music were being pioneered and popularised, the relative infancy and expense of the tools at the time made it rather inaccessible. Fast forward to today, and Greg’s journey through the world of synthesisers led him to find a sense of fraternity in online communities, whose aid in learning how to use the machines reflects the album’s themes of interconnectedness, and the unpredictable nature of analogue gear preserved spontaneity and human feel.

Much of the writing of Everybody dates to the pre-Covid period between 2018 and 2020, a time Pat now recognizes as emotionally turbulent. “I was in anguish and I didn’t even know it”, he says. The album was delayed by a succession of life-changing events — bereavement, illness, broken relationships, the pandemic and its aftermath — followed by the band’s 40th anniversary commitments, making now the first clear moment for the music to finally emerge.

“We’re still pushing for something new in 2026”, says Pat, “From a wall of arpeggiators and synths, humming and pulsing away, we’ve wrested out ten songs that have as much of our mind, body and soul in them as any of our previous music.” Those songs confront powerlessness, polarization, runaway climate change, authoritarianism and technological overreach, while also championing active love as a counterforce.

“It turns out that Everybody is a love album — but that can mean love of justice, love of tech, love of the future, as much as of our beloveds” Pat says. It’s also a future-facing record, grappling with how we can thrive rather than merely survive and the brothers Kane couldn’t be prouder of what they’re made in Everybody, ” it’s a record I’ve been dreaming of making ever since I was a wee post-punk teenager in the early 80s.” Continues Pat, “My brilliant brother Greg rose to the challenge of answering these electro-pop yearnings, and we have produced what I feel is one of our most timeless albums.” A labour of love, it’s the next stage of their extraordinary career.

Preparing to embark on their Electro/Acoustic duo dates and following the recent success of their 40th Anniversary tour, Hue And Cry will be taking their full band on tour in October. “It’s always the most exciting thing to be playing live with the full Hue And Cry band – we can give all the hits and audience favourites – the full widescreen treatment” says Pat. “Come and see us, looking as sharp as you like, and let’s elegantly party together.” Greg adds: “We’re delighted to be taking the full band on the road again. The venues included on this run of dates are bigger and some of the best in the country, we cannot wait to play them.”

About Hue And Cry

Formed in 1984, Hue And Cry made an immediate impact with their debut album Seduced and Abandoned (1987), featuring the UK Top 10 hit ‘Labour of Love’. Success continued with albums including Remote, Stars Crash Down, Showtime and Jazz Not Jazz, producing hits such as ‘Looking for Linda’ and ‘Violently’. The band returned to mainstream prominence in 2005 as finalists on ITV’s Hit Me Baby One More Time, and in 2025 were presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Scottish Music Awards. Following a critically acclaimed 40th Anniversary tour in 2024, Hue And Cry — who have sold tens of thousands of concert tickets worldwide and shared stages with artists including U2, James Brown, Madonna, Al Green and Van Morrison — now look forward once again with Everybody, an album that reconnects their past, present and future.
