Much-loved, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Noonzy delivers his debut album, Plan Is Bad – out now via Play It Again Sam.
On this new material, Noonzy’s style has evolved further into tight electronic productions as he collaborates alongside renowned British producer Bullion (Ben Howard, Nilüfer Yanya), allowing his artistic identity to become increasingly distinct.
The album arrives alongside a brand new video for focus track, ‘Look At That’, a song originally written during a session with the incredibly talented young producer Andrea Trevisan

Noonzy explains that the writing session for ‘Look At That’ started off pretty slowly, with no ideas immediately springing to mind. After taking a break from the studio and heading for lunch to discuss ideas, they decided to change their outlook and write to a brief, as if writing for another artist, or adverts and film.

“Back in the studio, I started messing around on a broken guitar with only two strings and spontaneously began singing: “Look at that, not even a second in my head”, explains Noonzy. “I instantly imagined the line capturing the moment when you realise you’re no longer sad about a lost relationship. More than that, it reflects the empowering feeling of recognising that you’ve truly moved on and are finally over it.” Noonzy describes the writing  experience from that moment on as far more enjoyable, with the first draft of the song completed by 2am.

He continues, “Throughout the entire session, I genuinely believed it was going to be a song for another artist. Yet when I played the song for friends, they suggested I keep it for myself. At first, I was hesitant, but in the spirit of the album – jump and see where you end up – I decided to go for it.”

For Plan Is Bad, Noonzy brought a handful of existing demos to London, which gradually evolved into unexpected mixes and final versions. Blind trust in each other’s ideas and a leap into the unknown gradually became the central theme: guitar songs were recorded without a guitar, entire verses vanished like snow in the sun, and tempos were constantly adjusted. Many of these choices were so-called lucky accidents, such as a drum machine that refused to accept the correct tiprme signature and thus offered a whole range of alternatives. The album sees Noonzy embark on a new path, bidding farewell to his former DIY, lo-fi indie approach and making room for experimentation and a loss of control within a pop format. The result is his very first studio album, Plan Is Bad.
