INTERVIEWS : SMN’S Lauran speaks to Chase Matthew before his recent King Tuts show in Glasgow

If there’s one things about US country stars visiting Europe is that they are always blown away from the ever-growing scene here – and one artist in particular who is on a European cloud 9 after a series of sold out headline shows, his own TV show due to hit the screens AND several spots at C2C is the one and only Chase Matthew. We sat down with the You Turn hitmaker to find out his views on the European scene, inspiration behind his latest release, CHASE, and how he likes to party during his trip over the pond.

We are 2 weeks out of CHASE the album, and it has SKYROCKETED – how does it feel to see your literal baby, this brand-new album be sung back to you by your fans live on stage.

Oh, it’s nuts I mean – not even the new songs – I mean any of them the fact that we are this far away from home and people know our music is crazy – it really goes to show that music does bring people together.

I must admit when I hear Shania Twain Man I Feel like a Woman, it makes me want to kick a door off its hinges – and I feel like that is the vibe we get from Drives My Truck – it slaps every time – is there a song in particular you are like “I cannot wait to play this live?”.

Yeah Darlin – that is an international smash right now and it’s really showing its hand I like that one.

Especially being your 3rd album, we’ve seen a lot of genres of Chase Matthew – this one for me felt a bit more lo-fi rap, emotional undertones and some love language in there – is there any influence?

Aw hell no – I’m very good without it – I don’t celebrate valentines! There’s a lot of driving songs on this record for sure – I actually was going to call it Chase – chase the driving songs but I started to think – chase kind of fits the driving vibe – there’s Driving Through My Hometown, Drives My truck – and then there’s You Turn, No Name Roads and so many different spins on driving and I feel like I spent so much time listening to music when I’m driving that this is a driving around album and I hope you all love it.

You and Tayler Holder just love your tracks about trucks.

I’m a Facebook marketplace junkie. I just love Trucks, I love driving – I will make any excuse to get something about trucks into any record you got me there!

We have seen such a rise in the UK and Ireland in the country scene – how does it feel seeing the vibe you can create with your music overseas and it’s this crazy

It’s a long way from home it’s crazy to think 3 years ago I was this dude who had $20 to his name and was sleeping in a $400 a month room in Nashville Tennessee and trying to get my foot in the door – I’ve always had a thing for music it’s kind of been my therapy so it is wild to see now only the numbers go up I don’t really focus on the numbers, but to go and do a show all the way over here and its ‘mental’.. Is that the word you used? It’s MENTAL BABY! It blows my mind. I’m very thankful.

With this album we saw a collab with Lauren Alania and hey in the past we saw the Flo Rida collab that slaps

THANKYOU I grew up loving Flo Rida!

Let’s push the boat out here Chase… Who is the dream collab?

Can I give you 3? I cannot choose a favourite – I’ve never really told anyone this but Adele – who doesn’t like Adele – I love her – if it was going to be a rap influence it would be Jack Harlow, and country would be hands down Jason Aldean!

You are on tour with Tayler, and we know you love a good party but tell me, whilst on tour how do Holder and Matthews party in Europe?

We have had so much fun on this tour. It has been amazing we’re looking forward to a few drinks tonight, great music and just having the best time – and dancing… we’re going to go mental – am I saying it right?

Chase Matthew you’re learning our lingo already thank you for the most fantastic show and we cannot wait to have you back in the UK again soon!
