CONCERT REVIEW : PET SHOP BOYS – 4TH JUNE 2024 OVO HYDRO GLASGOW

The Pet Shop Boys’ Dreamworld concert in Glasgow was a visual and aural spectacular, offering a full on electrifying evening from the start which clearly delighted long-time fans and newcomers alike.

The Pet Shop Boys delivered the expected blend of nostalgia and their clear appeal showcased the duo’s ability to remain as relevant today as they did in the 80’s

From the moment Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe took the stage to the opening strains of ‘Suburbia’, the energy from them to the crowd and, in return, from crowd to band was obvious.

The tone was instantly set for the evening as hit after hit followed and it was the most amazing version of ‘Left To My Own Devices’ that really had the crowd dancing in the isles.

The stage design, with its matching lampposts and huge rear video screen, was visually stunning and the highly impressive visuals that accompanied their performance only added to the evenings entertainment.

With Neil Tennant’s vocals as sharp as ever, and Chris Lowe’s synth work being impeccable, the Pet Shop Boys proved that their musical chemistry remains intact in to the current decade.

The setlist was a well structured journey through the Pet Shop Boys extensive selection of hits and featured timeless hits like “It’s a Sin,” “Go West,” and “Always on My Mind”. Each song was met with a huge reception from the adoring crowd who sang along to each song.

What stood out particularly was the Pet Shop Boys’ engagement with the audience. Tennant’s occasional anecdotes and the duo’s evident enjoyment in performing added a personal touch to the show. The encore, featuring the inevitable “West and Girls” and “Being Boring,” was a poignant finale that left the audience both satisfied and yearning for more.
