Mac DeMarco and I first met at Glastonbury this summer … he was killing it onstage and I was at home, watching it from my boyfriend’s couch after he insisted I HAD to see this guy! And, he wasn’t wrong ….

DeMarco and Co brought their “jizz jazz” (their words, not mine) to a packed O2 Academy on Sunday night; the student strong crowd may explain why DeMarco was a mystery before Glasto, but the ‘young team’ knew how to bring it in Glasgow.

A mixed bag of uptempo and ballad shaped the set; stand out moments included “Freaking Out The Neighbourhood”, “Rock & Roll Night Club”, “Salad Days”, “My Kind Of Woman” and “Choo Choo”, taken from latest LP, “Here Comes The Cowboy”, DeMarco’s fourth studio effort released in May.

DeMarco couldn’t hide his joy at the vibe of the crowd, and he paid homage to his host city by necking our traditional drink, “Buckfast” and playing a random but rousing version of The Proclaimers, “Over And Done With”.

The show was super sweet, but short with a feeling of unfinished business as the crowd milled outside into the cold, but I’m glad I met DeMarco at Glastonbury this summer because I’m diggin’ it …..

Even if it does mean getting down with the kids every now and then.
