CONCERT REVIEW : GREY DAZE – CATHOUSE, GLASGOW 15TH MAY 2024

Grey Daze, the band that marked the beginning of the legendary Chester Bennington’s music career before he joined Linkin Park, embarked on their first-ever UK tour. It was a poignant and memorable night as the audience experienced the original music of Grey Daze, brought to life by the voice of Cris Hodges. Despite the absence of bassist Mace Beyers, who had to return to the USA due to a family emergency, the band, now a three-piece, delivered a powerful and emotional performance. The fans were taken on a nostalgic journey, celebrating the music that helped shape one of the most iconic voices in rock music.

Tonight’s concert features two incredible support bands, kicking off with High Regard from Hertfordshire. The alt-rock ensemble showcases the dynamic vocals of Georgia Casey, the pulsating bass rhythms of Matt Smith, and the electrifying guitar riffs of Tom Townsend. Their stage presence is magnetic, captivating the audience with their boundless energy and commanding performance. Even though their set is brief, it’s packed with a series of powerful songs that leave a lasting impression. Some standout tracks include “The Latter,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Dead to Me,” each displaying a perfect blend of emotion and intensity. High Regard’s remarkable talent and compelling sound make them a band to watch, and I eagerly anticipate their return to Glasgow for another round of exhilarating live performances.

Next up was Glasgow’s own North Atlas, who have been making waves in the music scene with their unique high-energy alternative rock sound. Comprising brothers Leon and Cam Hunter, Kai Cairney, and Drew Lesslie, the band members donned tribal paint on their bodies and arms, adding a visually intriguing element to their performance. As they hit the stage, it was evident that their sound was much heavier than that of the opening act, High Regard, yet their vocals remained impressively clear and powerful. North Atlas’ music is a captivating blend of tribal dance elements with a rock-infused twist, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Their standout songs “Deadtree” and “Seer” were particularly well-received, showcasing the band’s ability to deliver a dynamic and captivating set. North Atlas is definitely a band to keep an eye on, as they offer a distinct and immersive sound that takes listeners on a journey into their enthralling musical world.
