Claudi-Mariee is shaping up to be the UK’s next major contender in the R&B and pop spaces. Often compared to Rihanna, the 20-year-old now steps up her rise as she drops her new single ‘Ransom’. Listen HERE.
Claudie-Mariee’s enchanting voice is the star of the show in ‘Ransom’ – a vocal that possesses the elegance, purity and control to match its raw emotional punch. It is set to a production which hits the intersection of R&B grooves and instant pop engagement, uniting broad mainstream appeal with artistic credibility. As a singer-songwriter whose personal truths reflect common emotions, she has crafted a song that’s immediately relatable for her generation – the perils of a relationship in which only the woman is fighting to keep it together.
Claudi-Mariee says, “Ultimately I made ‘Ransom’ about all the good girls and good women who gave their all to a man, who only took advantage of their kindness and took the love for ransom. The song is written from my own perspective but it’s like a universal language for all the girls who can relate. Just the title itself ‘Ransom’ is self explanatory and as you listen to the verses I go into detail of what the reality actually feels like for us women.”
Claudi-Mariee wrote ‘Ransom’ with the track’s producer Ebenezer Fabiyi (BTS, Ashnikko, Stefflon Don).
The track’s accompanying video plays to the song’s emotional state-of-mind. Exuding both strained vulnerability and empowered self-confidence, Claudi-Mariee drifts through an east London street. The visual aesthetic around her captures the real nocturnal London: looming shadows punctuated with bursts of colour and, like the artist herself, both gritty and utterly authentic. The video was directed by Johnny Cooke (Doechii, ODUMODUBLVCK).
While Claudi-Mariee is firmly on the rise, the singer-songwriter initially didn’t feel as if music was her calling. She had performed in local talent shows, but the turning point came when she was kicked out of her parents home at the age of just 16. This turbulent time inspired a creative breakthrough, first realising the power of her voice and then by pouring her emotions into confessional and cathartic lyricism. She already has heavyweight backing in the shape of managers Benny and Bello – and the latter knows world class talent when he sees it having also masterminded the rise of rap phenomenon Central Cee.
Her ascension is underway following introductory tracks ‘Never Love Again’, ‘Impulses’ and ‘BESTIE’. Now her journey is rapidly gathering momentum – and ‘Ransom’ is the first moment where she takes her undeniable potential to the world.
