Following the release of his brilliant third single, “Mai’s Song,” earlier this year, the German multi-instrumentalist Ripl is back. On 11th October, Ripl will release his enigmatic re-invention of, ‘Chokeslam,’ which features Sebastian Wende from American skate punk band, Bad Advice. Chokeslam is a light-hearted and humorous track about a person who is protected by their professional wrestling champion girlfriend.
When discussing the track, Ripl said, “I saw Bad Advice at a battle of the bands when they couldn’t afford their own instruments and they smashed their guitars on stage after they played, ‘Chokeslam,’ which was hilarious to watch. When I heard this song for the first time, I felt it was more of a ballad rather than a punk song, so we decided to hit the studio together to work on a new verson of the track.”
Ripl was the first German musicians to record in the infamous Abbey Road studios and since moving to the UK in 2014, he has been fluroushing throughout the UK’s open-mic scene ever since. Having worked on previous Lumineers and Frightened Rabbit-tinged singles, ‘EMA’ and ‘Of Course I Can,’ Ripl is now expanding his delicious and rich, folk-pop into a week-long tour that features a full band across the UK in October.
