Following the release of their limited edition 12” coloured vinyl to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the legendary anti-war hit single, ‘Enola Gay’, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) follow Hot Chip’s hypnotic remix of ‘Enola Gay’ with a brand-new mix from Theo Kottis.
Following a stellar year for the Glaswegian based DJ, which has seen him release one of the tracks of the summer in his sun drenched piano-house tune, ‘Never’, remix Disclosure’s classic track, ‘Douha (Mali Mali)’, and his funky tune ‘Turning Around’ made Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’, Theo Kottis, adds a euphoric EDM touch to OMD’s classic hit.
“‘Enola Gay’ is one of the most recognizable synth-pop hits of its time,” Theo said. “To remix this track was an incredible but slightly scary opportunity! To have OMD reach out & approve the remix is a really special way to end the year & I’m really proud to have contributed to the 40th-anniversary campaign!”
Recorded at Ridge Farm Studios in Dorking, and released on September 26th, 1980, ‘Enola Gay’ was the only single from the band’s second studio album ‘Organisation’.
Lyrically detailing the atomic bombing on Hiroshima during World War II by the B29 Superfortress aircraft, the song scored a UK Top 10 on the singles charts and went on to become an international success, selling more than 5 million copies worldwide and ingraining itself as a synth pop classic and arguably OMD’s signature track.
The band will perform a special live streamed show from London’s Indigo at The O2 on March 27th – set to raise money and awareness for their crew, whose livelihoods have been so affected in the wake of the global Covid-19 pandemic. OMD will also embark on their ‘Architecture and More’ tour next year where they will perform songs from their iconic album ‘Architecture & Morality’, plus many more hits from their legendary back catalogue.
OMD will play the following UK arena headline shows:
