CONCERT REVIEW : Happy Mondays – Barrowland Ballroom 15th March 2024

The iconic sounds of Manchester are making their way to Glasgow, as fans eagerly gather outside the famous venue. The excitement in the air is amazing, with an electric buzz building up for what promises to be a memorable night. Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, and the Stereo MCs, three top bands from the 90’s era, are poised to take the stage and deliver an unforgettable performance. The anticipation is high as fans wait in anticipation for the music to begin, and the energy of the crowd is infectious. Tonight is sure to be a special night filled with nostalgia and great music.

The night kicked off with an electrifying performance by the talented Stereo MC’s, consisting of Rob Birch, Cath Coffey, Nick Hallam, and Owen If. It was a triumphant return to the venue for the band, which had last graced its stage when they supported the Happy Mondays on October 14th, 1992. The infectious beats and catchy tunes had the crowd on their feet, dancing and singing along just like they did back in the 90’s.

Rob Birch, donning a dark blue hat and boilersuit, had the Barrowland crowd in the palm of his hand as he belted out hits like “Pressure,” “On 33,” and the crowd favourite, “Connected.” The energy in the venue was electric as the band warmed up the audience and had them grooving along. They closed out their set with the mesmerising “Elevate Your Mind” and the high-energy track “Step It Up,” leaving the Glasgow audience wanting more.
As they bid farewell to the crowd, the Stereo MC’s were met with thunderous applause and cheers, a testament to their incredible performance that night. It was a night to remember, filled with great music and unforgettable moments shared between the band and their devoted fans.

With a line-up including Stephen Holt, Graham Lambert, Kev Clark, Oscar Boon, and Clint Boon, the band is sure to deliver an unforgettable night of music.

As the stage crew worked diligently to prepare for the highly anticipated headline performance by the iconic band Happy Mondays, the nostalgic sounds of the 90s resonated throughout the historic Barrowland venue. The atmosphere crackled with energy as Shaun Ryder and Bez, joined by Rowetta, Gary Whelan, Mark Day, and Dan Broad, made their way onto the stage at the renowned venue. This was a familiar setting for the band, as they had previously rocked this iconic stage on three separate occasions. The audience buzzed with anticipation as the band launched into their set with a fresh and innovative introduction to their hit song, “Kinky Afro.” Rowetta’s vocals soared throughout the venue, commanding attention, while Shaun’s distinct voice reverberated through the speakers, stirring up excitement among the devoted fans in attendance.

As the band began playing the iconic track “Kinky Afro,” the atmosphere in the venue quickly escalated to a frenzy of excitement. The crowd erupted in cheers, their enthusiasm mixing with the band’s electrifying performance to produce a sensational sound that filled the entire venue. Bez, holding his signature maracas, took centre stage with his dynamic dance moves, captivating the audience with his infectious energy. The band sounded absolutely incredible, with Shaun’s vocals hitting all the right notes as they kicked off their set “God’s Cop,” followed by the groovy vibes of “Donovan,” before launching into the fan favourite “Loose Fit.” The energy in the venue was electric, with a sea of bouncing heads creating a wave of excitement from the front row all the way to the back. The Glasgow audience was clearly loving every moment of the Happy Mondays’ performance.
