BEABADOOBEE, one of the UK’s most exciting recent breakthrough artists, has shared her new single, HOW WAS YOUR DAY, the latest track from her forthcoming debut album, FAKE IT FLOWERS, to be released on 16 October via Dirty Hit.
The track is an ode to the acoustic sounds of Bea’s earlier EPs and was recorded on a four-track cassette recorder in her boyfriend’s garden when her studio was closed at the beginning of the pandemic. The lo-fi video also calls back to her earlier collaborations with bedroom, who directed the nostalgia-tinged video made of footage of Bea and her loved ones together over the past few months.
“How Was Your Day? is a track that explores all the relationships I neglected when I was away from home,” explains Bea. “I wanted to emphasise the rawness of the lyrics with the song socially, which is why I recorded it on a four-track with all the little mistakes and vocal wobbles included. I wanted the music video to feel nostalgic for me, to include all the people I care about, it took me back to the time I first started making music.”
HOW WAS YOUR DAY is the latest single from BEABADOOBEE’s highly anticipated debut album, FAKE IT FLOWERS, released on 16 October via Dirty Hit. It follows the previous singles CARE, which has been streamed almost four million times, WORTH IT and SORRY, described by The Guardian as “a masterfully restrained expression of regret, eventually pushing sardonic 90s alt-rock into sky-splitting territory”.
