Samurai Kip meticulously meld genres. Unique and fresh but somehow familiar, they craft fun and soulful creations. Their new single ‘Smoke’ will be released on 27th March 2020 , following the online success of February single ‘Daybreak’ which achieved over 15,000 Spotify plays in 3 weeks, was picked as a Fresh On The Net Fave and is currently doing the rounds on Dave Monks’ BBC Introducing Merseyside .
The band originated with the subtle garage jams of singer Aidan Mcguire and drummer Michael Lindberg , later joined by Michael’s older brother – Jamie Lindberg , on bass. After building a virtuosic chilled out sound with a King Krule-esque rough vocal tying it all together, they later added jazz sensibility with trombonist, Charly Reed . In 2018, the band cemented their bond on a 2 month interrailing journey across the length and breadth of Europe, before re-settling back in Liverpool where they have made a big impression on the live scene.
Despite playing shows with some of their true North West jazz contemporaries such as Tetes De Pois and The Blurred Sun Band , their music has always captured the favour of more than just the jazz enthusiasts. Samurai Kip have found themselves playing to sell-out crowds across the Liverpool music scene, flirting with the likes of SPQR, Eyesore & The Jinx and the Eggy Records crowd.
Samurai Kip kicked off 2020 with the release of ‘Daybreak’ and are now following that with their latest offering, ‘Smoke’. Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 , the band has had to cancel all upcoming shows. However, to mark the release of ‘Smoke’, the live launch has been replaced by a live stream, direct from Jamie Lindberg’s bedroom at 8PM (GMT) this Friday 27th March through Samurai Kip’s Youtube channel. Viewers are invited to watch the single launch show, followed by a Q & A.
Up The Kip!
