ROD STEWART, STILL GAME, BACKSTREET BOYS, HUGH JACKMAN AND WWE VOTED WINNERS OF LIVE ENTERTAINMENT BY FANS IN THE SSE LIVE AWARDS 2020

FANS VOTE IN THEIR THOUSANDS TO CROWN THEIR TOP LIVE ACTS ACROSS MUSIC, SPORT, COMEDY & ENTERTAINMENT AT THE SSE HYDRO

Rod Stewart, Still Game, Hugh Jackman, Backstreet Boys and WWE Live have been crowned the winners of live entertainment by fans, taking home top prizes at the SSE Live Awards for The SSE Hydro in 2019. After another massive year for Scottish live entertainment, over half a million votes were cast in the biggest SSE Live Awards yet with international names in music, sport, comedy and more picking up prestigious awards.

Backstreet Boys are the big winners, taking home the top prize for overall Event of the Year as well as the award for Best Group. Homegrown heroes Still Game win Best Comedy, music icon Rod Stewart is crowned Best Solo Artist, the great showman himself Hugh Jackman claims Best Live Entertainment and WWE Live wins Best Sporting Event

It was a battle of the world’s biggest boy bands as Backstreet Boys fought off stiff competition from Take That, Westlife and Boyzone to scoop the biggest prize available at the SSE Live AwardsEvent of the Year. After an electric appearance in Glasgow as part of their worldwide DNA tour in June, the legendary US boy band are crowned the winners of live entertainment at The SSE Hydro. With more than 100 million records sold worldwide, their career-spanning set was clearly a hit with fans who voted in their thousands to also bring home the Best Group award for the band.

Legendary rock & roller Rod Stewart wins the most votes for Best Solo Artist. Over fifty years into his career, the iconic frontman raced ahead of international stars like Post Malone, CHER, Olly Murs and Gerry Cinnamon and more to top the charts. The singer has his own special relationship with The SSE Hydro, having opened the venue in 2013 and was recently awarded a special SSE Live Award in recognition of his ten appearances at the venue

After saying an emotional goodbye with their ‘Final Farewell’ shows at The SSE Hydro in 2019, there could be no other winner for Best Comedy Show than Still Game. With nine iconic television series under their belt, the nation said a final farewell to Scottish heroes Jack & Victor with critically acclaimed live shows at The SSE Hydro, performed in front of over 100,000 people. It seems fitting the comedy icons should be rewarded with a final SSE Live Award for these last shows.

Picking up the award for Best Live Entertainment at The SSE Hydro ahead of Disney On Ice, Country to Country and Strictly Come Dancing, Australian actor, singer and producer Hugh Jackman takes the top prize for his spectacular all-singing, all-dancing live show. Continuing to ride the wave of ‘The Greatest Showman’s success, Hugh Jackman debuted ‘The Man. The Music. The Show’ in Glasgow back in May 2019, showcasing the biggest songs from his career so far with music from The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables and more. Fans voted in their thousands to make sure Hugh Jackman knew he had the greatest show.

This year’s Best Sporting Event category included Premier League Darts, the World Boxing Super Series and more but it is once again WWE Live who have come out on top for the second year running. A unique blend of sport and live entertainment, WWE Live continues to reign supreme for its many fans worldwide and will return to The SSE Hydro in May this year

Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE EVP, Talent, Live Events & Creative, said: “Thank you WWE Universe in Scotland for helping WWE LIVE win Best Sporting Event at the SSE Live Awards for the second year in a row! We are proud and privileged to be recognized once again by the people who matter most – our fans. We will come back to defend the title on Monday, May 4 and I have one question…are you ready?”

It was another outstanding year for live entertainment in Scotland with Gerry Cinnamon, Ariana Grande, Little Mix, Twenty One Pilots, Impractical Jokers and Disney On Ice all up for prizes at the SSE Live Awards. With fans voting in their thousands at www.ssereward.com, competition was fierce and ever-changing before the six winners were eventually crowned. This year’s prestigious set of champions join previous winners Kevin Bridges, Jess Glynne, Andy Murray Live, Andre Rieu and more.

Meanwhile, at The SSE Arena, Wembley, winners of the SSE Live Awards for the London venue include Blackpink, Jack Savoretti, Bianca Del Rio, Bellator and more.
