HAWKE THE BAND
YOUNG DUBLIN DUO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “MOLLY” ON 31st MARCH
NEW UK LIVE SHOWS ANNOUNCED FOR AUTUMN 2021
“Like their heroes Aslan and Dublin acts before them like U2, Gavin James and Kodaline, they have
an expert ear for anthemic, stadium-filling songwriting” (Dublin Live)
“Gorgeous indie-filled pop” (Talk About Pop Music)
“Immensely exciting” (Celebmix)
“Definitely ones to watch” (Theliberty.ie)
HAWKE THE BAND will release a brand-new track “Molly” next week via digital platforms (their third single of the year and it’s only March 2021!)
The young Dublin duo was formed by two friends – Richie Power (vocals/keyboards) and Eoghan Mac Mahon (vocals/guitar) – in the shadow of the world-famous Guinness Brewery, in the south of the city.
Currently based in London, HAWKE THE BAND are coming out fighting this year – “Molly” is the third of twelve new singles the pair plan to release monthly throughout 2021
Drawing sonically on Richie & Eoghan’s love of rousing 90s indie-rock (especially The Verve, Oasis and Radiohead) as well as fellow countrymen U2, “Molly” weaves a melancholic tale of Eoghan’s one night romance with the mysterious titular young woman – “For the sake of the story, let’s give her a name like ‘Molly’” – and boasts another of the band’s signature anthemic piledriver choruses (plus a chiming, beautifully played early Edge-like middle eight).
Referring to the new single’s true story of lost young love, bandmate Richie says; “Molly is the name we gave to a girl who sadly broke Eoghan’s heart after a one night ‘romance’.”
Eoghan continues; “I’d really like to find Molly. Molly, if you read this, text me back.”
The follow-up to January’s “Gonna Be Alright” and February’s “Pinch Me (Am I Dreaming?)”, “Molly” was recorded remotely during lockdown with the help of Manchester-based bassist Jamie McIntyre (who himself has performed with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Josh Groban) and then flown to sunny Spain to have the finishing touches added by renowned Abbey Road Studios producer Carlos Bricio.
HAWKE THE BAND are currently finalising a very special Dublin hometown gig (more details soon), but are very pleased to confirm three new UK live dates for late 2021 – they play;
15 October Newcastle Surf Café (14+)
16 October Manchester Tribeca (14+)
21 October London Luna Lounge (18+)

After recording initial home demos in Richie’s bedroom, the pair hit upon a plan to send their demo-tape to a hit-list of the industry’s top producers. Within days, the cunning plan paid off and Richie & Eoghan found themselves recording their newly-written songs during precious studio time at both Abbey Road and Metropolis Studios in the capital.
One of the tracks from these initial London recording sessions (“What About Love”) was entered into a competition to win the chance to play as special guests of local heroes Aslan at Dublin’s 5,000 capacity Iveagh Gardens, a prize which Richie & Eoghan were astonished to win, despite there being 500+ entries from hopeful acts. The pair were thrilled to follow in the footsteps of previous Aslan openers such as Gavin James and Damien Dempsey, playing to a packed hometown audience in late 2019, with Aslan frontman Christy Dignam even describing the boys in print as, “The next big thing.”
Richie & Eoghan followed that huge local show with a raft of UK summer festival slots, playing alongside other young breakout acts such as Jake Bugg and Tom Grennan, before Covid-19 sadly put an abrupt halt to live performance last year.
HAWKE THE BAND have used their lockdown time wisely, spending much of 2020 furiously writing and recording songs which will form the bedrock of their intensive 2021 release campaign.
For this young Dublin duo the journey is just beginning.
