August the 27th heralds the start of something very special; No Dancing will strive to bring together the most exciting and thought-provoking acts playing in Glasgow today. August’s line up is ambitiously eclectic, and promises to be a truly excellent night of musical entertainment. This month our guests are:

Adam Stafford (Y'all is Fantasy Island)

As well as being the frontman of Falkirk's acclaimed 'Y'all is Fantasy Island', a composer and a multi-award winning film director, Adam Stafford somehow also finds time to run his own record label 'Wiseblood Industries' (on which he has released The Kays Lavelle’s fantastic debut, among others). Stafford's debut solo LP 'Awnings' (2009) was recorded in one three hour session using only a microphone and two loop pedals. The resulting compositions are based upon swirling repetitions that lurch and sway, as off-beat melodies and percussive mouth sounds are added and built upon. A truly impressive and unmissable live act.

Deathpodal

Deathpodal is the long awaited full band re-enactment of Al Chivers' painstakingly brilliant debut EP. Featuring members of Copy Haho and PVH, 2010's 'Exu_Wow' has been received with unanimous praise, including rave reviews from The Skinny Magazine and an incalculable number of music blogs. An exhilarating multi-layered mix of musical styles; everything from lo-fi punk to intricate post-rock, with noise and grunge sensibilities.

PAWS

'BBC 6 Music's favourite new band', in their extremely brief history, have already shared the stage with Ariel Pink and Dum Dum Girls, released debut single 'Violent Vicky Violet', and enjoyed national airplay. With an October support slot for No Age secured and a September UK tour planned, 2010 is certain to be a relentless year for PAWS.

RM Hubbert

With 2010's pay-what-you-like full-length debut release 'First and Last', RM Hubbert has emerged from the Glasgow DIY scene bearing a classical guitar. Since the release, he has already opened for legendary Godspeed You Black Emperor offshoot Thee Silver Mount Zion; played a host of Glasgow dates, and will play as support for Glasgow's own Unwinding hours in October. Work on a second album featuring collaborations with Alasdair Roberts, Emma Pollock and Aidan Moffat is underway. Hubbert's live show combines influences ranging from flamenco and post-rock to punk. The result is a sparse, beautifully melodic soundscape that has the ability to reduce entire venues to silent awe.
